Short answer: most people should buy the EDP. It sits between the fresh, sharp EDT and the heavy, syrupy Elixir, lasts 8–12 hours, and works for both office and evening. The EDT is the better choice only if you want something genuinely light for hot afternoons, and the Elixir only if you want maximum strength for winter nights.

Sauvage EDT - the original
The 2015 release, and the one that made Sauvage a phenomenon. It opens with bright Calabrian bergamot and pepper, and dries down to ambroxan — that clean, slightly mineral amber note that gives Sauvage its signature.
It is the freshest of the three and the easiest to over-apply without anyone minding. It is also the weakest performer, typically 5–7 hours, and it fades faster in heat and humidity.

Sauvage EDP - the one most people want
The 2018 reformulation, and the version we're asked for most often.
It keeps the bergamot and Sichuan pepper opening, then adds star anise, nutmeg and vanilla underneath. The result is warmer and rounder than the EDT without becoming a dessert fragrance. The ambroxan is still there and still doing the heavy lifting on projection.
This is the most versatile of the three. It is fresh enough for daytime and warm enough for evenings, and at 8–12 hours it will outlast a full working day. Two or three sprays is plenty — it is noticeably stronger than the EDT.
Buy the EDP if: you want one Sauvage that covers every occasion. For most people in India, this is the correct answer.

Sauvage Elixir - the strongest
The 2021 release, and a genuine departure. Cinnamon, nutmeg and liquorice over lavender and amber, with a much higher concentration than either of the others.
It is dense, sweet and spicy in a way that has very little in common with the fresh EDT. Performance is enormous — 10–14 hours, and one or two sprays is genuinely the limit. Over-apply it and you will clear a room.
In Indian summer heat it becomes overwhelming for most wearers. It comes into its own in December and January, at night.
Buy the Elixir if: you want maximum strength for winter evenings and you already know you like sweet, spicy fragrances.
Which one suits Indian weather?
This matters more here than in most markets, because heat amplifies fragrance.
- Summer and monsoon (March–September): EDT for daytime, EDP if you want something that lasts through the day. Skip the Elixir.
- Winter (November–February): EDP for daily wear, Elixir for nights out and occasions.
- Office, year-round: EDP, two sprays. The EDT fades before lunch; the Elixir is too much for a shared space.
How to decide without wasting money
A full bottle of Sauvage is a significant purchase, and the three versions are different enough that liking one does not guarantee you will like another. Plenty of people who love the EDT find the Elixir unwearable.
This is exactly what decants are for. A 5ml decant gives you around 70–80 sprays — roughly 14–16 wears at five sprays each, enough for two weeks of real-world wear in your own climate, on your own skin. That tells you more than any review, including this one.
