The opening is spicy rather than sweet — bergamot with cinnamon and cardamom, warm and inviting. Then the gourmand side takes over: vanilla and sugar in the heart, and a base of praline, almond and tonka that is genuinely creamy rather than sickly. Ambroxan and woods sit underneath giving it structure, which is what stops it collapsing into a dessert. It is a cold-weather fragrance and it knows it.

Is Historic Sahara an Althair alternative?
