The Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Discovery Set puts all three modern Le Male flankers side by side — 10ml hand-decanted metal atomizers of Le Male Le Parfum, Le Male Elixir and Le Male Elixir Absolu. Same lavender-vanilla DNA, three very different directions: refined and woody, honeyed and sweet, or thick and boozy. Wear each one properly for a week before deciding which deserves a full bottle.

What's in the set

• Le Male Le Parfum — the Eau de Parfum Intense. Cardamom opens it, lavender and iris build the heart, and the base is vanilla with warm woods. The most restrained of the three and the easiest to wear to an office.
• Le Male Elixir — lavender and mint over vanilla and benzoin, landing on honey, tonka bean and a soft tobacco warmth. Sweet, dense and built for evenings.
• Le Male Elixir Absolu — the heaviest of the three. Lavender up top, a boozy plum-and-cinnamon heart, and a resinous benzoin-tonka base. Loud, sweet and unapologetic about it.

How far the set goes

All three are strong enough that two sprays does the job, so in practice the set stretches well past the numbers above.

Which one should you start with?

Start with Le Parfum if you want something you can wear to work and to dinner without thinking about it. Start with Elixir if you already know you like sweet fragrances and want the honey-tobacco version of the Le Male signature. Save Elixir Absolu for a cold evening — it is the loudest of the three and the least forgiving in heat.

What is the difference between Le Male Elixir and Elixir Absolu?
Elixir is the honey-vanilla version with a soft tobacco base and is the easier of the two to wear. Absolu is heavier, with plum and cinnamon over a denser benzoin-tonka base.

Can I buy a full size after trying them?
Yes. All three are also sold individually as 5ml, 10ml and 20ml decants, so you can size up on whichever one you keep reaching for.
